PetroSA's Sponsors announces R495 000 sponsorship for Southern Cape 2013 PetroSA marathon

The PetroSA Marathon, one of the Western Cape’s most popular race meetings, has been confirmed for 28 September 2013 and will offer a total prize package of
Boasting a route that runs along some of the Southern Cape's most scenic spots, the race offers the winners of the men's and women's 42.2km a R60 000 cash purse. There will also be cash prizes for the first ten (10) men and women athletes in the 42.2km race.
Other prizes are R10 000 for the 21.1km race winners and R5 000 for those competing in the 10km competition. This year, the Minister of Energy, Mr Ben Martins will be a participant and a guest of honour at the Marathon.
In its' 11th year, the PetroSA Marathon is also popular with athletes from the across the Southern African Development Community. In the 2012 race some of the athletes hailed from Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. Some athletes came from as far as Kenya.
Last year's 42.2km men’s race was won by Benedict Moeng from Gauteng North (2:14.16), while Peris Jepkorir from Kenya (2:39.56) won the women’s race.
Nosizwe Nokwe-Macamo, the PetroSA Group CEO, said the company's involvement with the race was not just about sports sponsorship, but was also aimed at spurring economic growth in Mossel Bay and the Southern Cape.

Entry forms for the PetroSA Marathon are available on www.topevents.co.za. The race is scheduled to start at 07h00 from Mossel Bay's picturesque Santos Beach. It will feature a 42.2km, 21.1km, 10km races and a 5km fun run.
Alderlady Marie Ferreira, the Mayor of Mossel Bay, said the race was critical to the economy of the Southern Cape.
"Every year the race attracts hundreds of athletes from across the country and Southern Africa. These athletes and their family's needs accommodation, frequent our restaurants and are generally a welcome attraction for the economy of our town," she said.
