Cape Town, 18 August 2011 – National Oil Company (NOC) PetroSA will be one of the 11th All Africa Games 2011’s Silver sponsors, the company announced in Cape Town today.
Making the announcement, PetroSA Acting President and CEO Yekani Tenza said the continental sporting showpiece, to be held in Mozambique on 3-18 September, presented an excellent marketing opportunity for the company.
Organised by the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa, the All Africa Games are a multi-sport event that happens every four years. Fifty-three African countries, including South Africa, will participate in the Games, which feature sporting codes such as handball, athletics, badminton, soccer, boxing, swimming and tennis, among others.
Mr Tenza said PetroSA was confident that Mozambique, South Africa’s neighbour, will do a great job in hosting the Games.
“The All Africa Games attract a viewing audience of millions across the continent and the world. Therefore, it makes sense that a company like ours, with ambitions of growth on the continent, should invest in this endeavour.
“As an African company, it makes sense for us to support initiatives and events that promote African excellence. The All Africa Games are well known for unearthing African athletes who go on to conquer the world. PetroSA is proud to be associated with the 11th All Africa Games,” Mr Tenza said
The first All Africa Games were hosted by Congo-Brazzavile in 1965. The last games took place in Algeria in 2007, while South Africa was the host country in 1999. ends
